Ashoka is the world's leading community of over 3,800 social entrepreneurs. We champion the most important new social change ideas and support the innovators behind them by helping them get started, grow, collaborate and reshape whole systems. Building on this experience of over 40 years, we have also embarked on a mission to build an Everyone a Changemaker World. An Everyone a Changemaker World is one that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges, and where each individual has the freedom, confidence and societal support to address any social problem and self-identify as a driver of change.

We see Ashoka as a live encyclopaedia of people, solutions, ideas and topics. To get a grasp of our universe, our Fellows on one hand work in the fields of Planet & Climate, social and financial inclusion, culture & artivism, sports for social good, nature conservation, civic participation, violence, feminism, mental health, migration and everything in between. On the other hand, our colleagues internationally have experience in organising accelerators, building communities, putting together conferences, building networks of changemaker universities and schools, increasing youth engagement, or working with governments. There are many threads we could learn from, scale and multiply for Romania, but we cannot do it alone and, in some cases, we should not have to, as there is much better local expertise on different subjects that can lead transformations where Ashoka plays a support role.

Why the Ashoka Residency Program?

An Everyone a Changemaker World for us, in Ashoka Romania, means that Ashoka is also you. The image we project of the world is one of deep connections, collaboration and accessibility. Starting with this vision, we have created the Ashoka Residency Program, a 3-month experience addressed to any changemaker in Romania who is curious to embark on a journey that explores the Ashoka universe in a way that will support them to leverage our ecosystem in their own work. The program targets especially people working in the civil society sector, but we welcome everyone from the public or private sectors if they are eager to join us. People who care about various issues, from education in rural areas to protected animal species. They are, by nature, receivers, altruists, caregivers, and valuable collaborators to us.

The goal of this program is to bring Ashoka to an open-source, collaborative framework that will help us open up to changemakers in the ecosystem and allow a larger mass of people to access our resources and opportunities more independently from our local team.
