About Clara G.

Clara mobilizes students from Santarém (PA) in reforestation actions in areas affected by logging.

Clara is the leader of the Plantar um Mundo Melhor (Planting a Better World) initiative, in partnership with Escola D'água. Coming from schools with innovative and changemaker approaches, she has been involved with environmental issues since childhood. The project was born when Clara was in 8th grade of Elementary School, and witnessed a fire in the forest of the region where she lives — the only reason why the flames did not reach her school was the river waters that stopped the fire. Plantar um Mundo Melhor focuses on reforesting areas affected by logging. Even though she is no longer a student at the institution, the project continues to take place with the participation of other students and has had visible impacts on the environment in her city.

In addition to reforestation and planting seedlings, the project has already organized stream cleaning initiatives, proper disposal of waste in schools, composting, integration with the Borari people, in addition to launching a radio program dedicated to bringing together the voices of people from different communities. Considering the impact of their project in terms of reforestation, the group planted more than 80 tree seedlings per week. Clara is committed to sharing the perspective of everyone in her community, but especially young people, who can contribute to solving environmental issues.
