Sobre Isabelle

Realizing the lack of real opportunities for girls like her, Isabelle created the Projeto Meninas Negras, a social project that combats racial and gender inequalities.

Coming from the outskirts of São Paulo, young Isabelle Christina, struggled to access quality education. When she managed to learn English on her own by studying over the internet, Isabelle discovered the power of technology for social transformation. Isabelle began to realize that many black girls, like herself, struggle to access quality education. Empathizing with others like her, she decided to create a blog to discuss these social injustices. At age 14, she transformed her writing into an organization called the Black Girls Project. The goal of the venture is to fight against racial and gender inequalities by helping black girls gain access to opportunities to become women leaders and global citizens. Online, the girls carry out collaborative technology projects such as participating in hackathons, to develop personal, academic, and professional skills. Today, the Black Girls Project has 35 participants, but there are another two thousand people who wish to be part of the initiative.
