Jean L.

From an early age, Jean recognized that experiencing different cultures and meeting diverse individuals makes youth better equipped to tackle pressing issues and communicate with the world around them. She saw that one of the best ways to gain global understanding was by experiencing it hands-on, through exchange programs, but also that participating in international exchanges is inaccessible for most students due to of financial constraints. With the goal to reduce the costs of international exchange while retaining the same opportunities and experiences, Jean created Leaders Across the World, virtual exchange program that allows youth (ages 11-18) to connect with others from around the world and engage in cross-cultural learning without the costs involved in regular exchanges. Her organization also prioritizes collaboration between the participants, including the opportunity for youth to share their life experiences, issues present within their communities, and their ideas for tackling these problems.
