Acerca de Adinda K.

Adinda processes mangroves into non-caffeinated coffee beans to improve community health, economy, and environment.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Adinda became aware of the economic and educational challenges faced by her community members due to financial constraints. While visiting the beaches in her hometown, she noticed that the local mangroves, which were considered merely as a mean to prevent abrasion, could be a valuable asset. Adinda conducted an online research and discovered that the fruits of Rhizophora mucronata mangroves could be processed into non-caffeinated coffee, and their stems could be replanted as mangrove tree seedlings. With the support of her five friends, Adinda initiated the MOCARO project. They developed innovative non-caffeinated coffee products, marketed them, and conducted educational outreach on mangrove conservation in schools and among members of local communities. The MOCARO initiative garnered support from government stakeholders, as well as organizations like PLAN Indonesia and Save the Children. MOCARO has also been successfully adopted in another coastal community in Nusa Tenggara Timur.

To encourage her peers to get involved in creating change, Adinda planned to organize face-to-face discussions about the problems in their community and the changes they can make. With the increasing support of Pasuruan schools towards MOCARO and its products, Adinda hoped to start these discussions soon to inspire her friends to take action in their surroundings.
