Improving general health and wellbeing of elderly through adapted physical activity

MMH, in partnership with Ashoka Fellow organization Siel Bleu and Bellvitage hospital, partnered together to understand the effects adapted physical education would have on the quality of life for patients being treated for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Patients were put in peer exercise classes and also connected with fitness coaches and the effects of the program were measured based on adherence to the program and self-reporting of program benefits. Both participants and coaches reported marked improvements both in their physical health and their mental health. The program has been so successful, Siel Bleu is now in discussion in launching a similar program with Boehringer Ingelheim partners in China.

Focusing on albinism and creating a mindset shift that will craft a more inclusive society

In Sept 2019, Making More Health started a comprehensive program to increase health and safety conditions for people in Western Kenya. One initiative was to protect people with Albinism from discrimination and raise awareness in their environment, so MMH started a collaboration with Fellow Jane Waithera`s organization: ‘Positive Exposure’. The goal was to provide assistance to distribute training material in Kenya that was useful to educators, students, and health care personal to train people with albinism and their families. It talked about proper eye and skincare for people with albinism and also shared knowledge on how to create a conducive learning environment for students and how to avoid discrimination for people with albinism.

MMH and PE-Kenya also ensured 30 students with albinism who previously enrolled in individual schools attend regular schools and provided with reasonable accommodations like prescription glasses, telescopes, and large prints
