Sara Cevallos’ Story

Art and emotional well-being in the Hummingbird Workshop.”
Historia de Sara Cevallos

Sara Cevallos, a passionate advocate for arts and culture, has created a haven for emotional expression and healing in her community through her initiative: the Hummingbird Workshop. Inspired by her early success as a writer and the constant support of her mother, Sara has dedicated her energy to fusing art with therapy to address emotional and psychological challenges, while fighting against the lack of cultural promotion in Latin America.

Sara's interest in art and its emotional impact began in her childhood, when she became the author of the book “Las Islas Encantadas” at a young age. This experience not only cemented her love for art, but also sparked her interest in sharing this passion with others. Observing the emotional and social challenges faced by children and older adults in her community, Sara was inspired to use art as a healing and learning tool.

Convinced that art could be a catalyst for personal and community change, Sara devised a meticulous plan to offer art therapy workshops. These workshops were designed to serve as a space for emotional expression and processing, helping participants of all ages overcome interpersonal and social barriers through artistic creation. This initiative took shape in the Hummingbird Workshop, where children and older adults could find a sense of belonging and community.

Historia de Sara Cevallos

Initially supported by her family, especially her mother, Sara's network expanded significantly during her undergraduate studies in architecture. Through chance encounters and shared connections, she formed a dedicated team of five members, equally passionate about art and its therapeutic potential. This team has been instrumental in developing and maximizing the scope of the project. In addition, the University of Monterrey's Center for Solidarity and Philanthropy's “Formar Para Transformar” program has provided crucial support, offering resources and guidance to strengthen its social impact.

Since its inception, Taller del Colibrí has grown into a recognized program that benefits multiple generations within the community. Providing not only art education but also emotional support, the workshop has helped many improve their psychological well-being and quality of life.

Historia de Sara Cevallos

Sara initially faced skepticism from adults who doubted her ability due to her age. In addition, the ongoing provision of materials needed for the workshops represented a significant financial barrier. Undeterred, Sara reached out to local businesses for donations of materials, which allowed the workshop to offer its services in a free and sustainable manner.

Being an agent of change means working hand-in-hand with the community to recognize and address social problems from an empathetic and creative perspective.”

Through the Taller del Colibrí, she has demonstrated that art can be a powerful means of social transformation, providing not only an escape but also tools to confront and solve emotional and psychological problems.
