A new policy, announced last month, will make same-language subtitles available for all films viewed on TV and streaming platforms and in cinema halls throughout India. This has long been the goal for Ashoka Fellow Brij Kothari, an educator and social entrepreneur who in 1996 set out to improve mass literacy in India (with its 600 million weak readers and 250 million non-readers) and improve media access for the 80 million Indians who are Deaf or hearing impaired.
Join us on April 24 to hear from Brij about the coalition that got this policy change across the finish line and what’s ahead in India and beyond.
Speaking with Brij will be Shruti Nair who leads Ashoka South Asia. This conversation will run about 30 minutes and will be in English. See you there, bring your questions!
