About Samuel B.
Samuel works to share knowledge and stories from an Amazonian perspective.
After years living in São Paulo, Samuel returned to Manaus, in Amazonas, where he was born. When trying to reconnect with his city and with the Amazon, he realized that the curriculum of the schools in his region wasn't working satisfactorily with the history and culture of the Amazon. With that, he and his friends decided to start the Themis Study Group initiative. Every week, young people gather to discuss and learn more about these topics. The team is divided into different responsibilities, such as researching and posting the topics of study on the website and having an Instagram account of the project.
The project's impact is related to the improvement of the academic skills and knowledge of the participants, around 50 young people in all. Ten of these young people also write articles about local history for online spread. The Study Group is for Samuel a way to start more honest conversations about the future that Amazonian youth want for themselves.
