About Ruanne
At Girl Up Angico, Ruanne disseminates information about women's health and combats misinformation
During her adolescence, Ruanne pursued a technical course in the healthcare field and noticed the limited access to women's health services and the lack of widespread knowledge on the subject. While participating in Reprograma, a project that offers programming workshops for girls and women, Ruanne and her group came up with the idea of creating a Girl Up club with an initial focus on disseminating information about women's health to combat misinformation. Nowadays, they also produce informative content on sexual education, feminism, and violence against women, and conduct educational cycles with girls from all over Brazil on female empowerment, offering workshops on topics such as anatomy, psychology, and the job market.
The club started with five girls, expanded to 12, and now has 45 participants. They meet weekly in smaller groups (e.g., marketing, projects, writing) and hold a full-team meeting every two weeks. Decisions are made collectively, and tasks are divided so that no one feels overwhelmed. The last training session involved 250 girls, and Ruanne sees the impact of Girl Up Angico primarily in two areas: knowledge, by providing solid and quality information, and the formation of a support network for girls that extends beyond the training. Ruanne strongly believes in the power of youth, especially girls, and aims to multiply dialogues and inspire more people to promote transformation.
