About Atha Y.
Atha promotes energy saving through creative and educational campaign at schools.
Atha's father, who works in the energy sector, often discusses with Atha the challenges of energy generation and preservation. Inspired by these conversations and documentaries highlighting the scarcity of energy and natural resources, such as water and electricity in rural areas of Africa, Atha realized that Indonesia, being one of the largest consumers of energy, might face similar challenges in the future. He observed that there was a lack of awareness among people in Indonesia about the importance of energy-saving practices – primarily due to inadequate and unattractive education efforts, as well as a low priority given to energy conservation in the general mindset of the population. In response, Atha and his classmate, Helga, co-founded "Sa-Fun" to encourage their peers to become "Energy-Saving Ambassadors". They educated their friends about energy-saving practices in a fun and creative manner, using media such as board games, videos, print media, stickers, and discussions. Today, Sa-Fun has grown to include 20 members and has reached 450 students in a couple of schools in Serpong.
Atha believed that change starts with self-awareness on the issues that are close to one's daily lives, such as energy-saving habits. He planned to educate people about simple actions they can take to address them using social media, memes, and gadgets that appeal to the youth, who will be the next generation of leaders in society and the world.
