FICI Motivates Interfaith Youth to Care about Climate Crisis

Selected youth from various ethnic groups and religions that are actively involved in creating change for the environment participate in a workshop titled Faith Inspired Changemaking Initiatives (FICI) last weekend. FICI was conducted in Bogor, 26-30 August 2022, to encourage young people from various faith groups to care about climate crisis.

A number of young people from various ethnicities and religions who are active in driving change in the environmental sector attended a workshop entitled Faith Inspired Changemaking Initiatives (FICI) last weekend. FICI, which is being held in Bogor, 26-30 August 2022, encourages young people of interfaith to care about the climate change crisis.

Participants who took part in the activities organized by Ashoka and Muhammadiyah through the Eco Bhinneka program were to produce innovations in the environmental field to overcome the climate crisis together with social innovators and environmental activists.

It is hoped that this environmental movement can jointly encourage wider public awareness of the climate crisis in Indonesia.

The Director of the Eco Bhinneka Program from Muhammadiyah Hening Parlan revealed that religious spirituality is very strategic for mitigating and preventing the effects of climate change.

"Among those present, there were representatives from Nahdatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, MUI, Indonesian Catholic Women, Kalimantan Evangelical Church, West Indonesian Protestant Church, Permabudhi (Indonesian Buddhist Association), Matakin (High Council of Confucianism Indonesia), Parishada Hindu , Buddhist Tzu Chi, and many other organizations from various religious and belief affiliations," said Hening, Tuesday (30/8/2022) in a written statement.
