Alone against the waves? How do you put a country and influential supporters on your mission? // The history of the Dutch Sea Rangers

Wietse van der Werf, founder of the Sea Rangers, Ashoka Fellow, has graduated from neither business nor conservation schools. He protested as an activist against climate change and inequality when he recognized an opportunity and successfully sided with the Dutch government and other influential people.

Its mission goes beyond environmental protection, not only working to protect the seas and oceans, but he created a new profession, the sea ranger, that has also been introduced to the public. Their concept is that veteran sailors are retraining young unemployed people who are protecting, cleansing and also serving science for aquatic life. With this, young people are given a new career path and opportunities, while the maritime profession is replenished and given impetus.

We also talk to Wietse about how the Sea Reangers started, what difficulties they experienced, and how he put the Dutch government and influential supporters behind his mission.
