It is a lamentable reality that the rule of law in many countries is unjust. Oftentimes it is skewed towards those with power, leaving the disadvantaged with no recourse for justice. In some cases, it has entirely disappeared, causing disastrous consequences for the accused and victims alike. The disadvantaged fall through the cracks of such broken systems.
What mechanisms can be put in place to ensure that justice is served? What can stakeholders in a legal system - victims, NGOs, lawyers, police, etc., do to ensure justice for all? And, indeed, how can the international community end its complicity in perpetuating the spread of injustice, and instead create conditions that support and enable the rule of law in protecting all citizens?
To find some answers to these important questions, join Ashoka Switzerland as we host two outstanding experts in international law and human rights, Karen Tse and Alain Werner.
