About Luiza L.
Realizing the lack of incentive to read and the alarming numbers of little reading among Brazilians, Luiza seeks to democratize access to literature through community libraries.
Realizing the general lack of incentive to read and the limited access to books, Luiza created the project “For a Better World” with a friend. Through campaigns, they carry out actions such as: the collection and donations of books, the construction of book shelves in children's hospital wards, school literary events, and storytelling in daycare centers, orphanages and nursing homes. This initiative creates opportunities to promote literature in multiple ways and in different places and for different audiences. With the pandemic, the implementation of the project proved to be feasible, allowing the creation of community libraries in the buildings and thus expanding access for those who are home more often. This structure of teamwork makes it possible to engage the team based on what each person likes to do: tell stories, play an instrument in reading sessions, create media products, articulate campaigns and other types of action. The project's actions have already spread to four municipalities in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, the city where Luiza lives.
