Who is an Ashoka Support Network (ASN) member?

Unlike traditional philanthropists, ASN members are changemakers who fully apply their creativity, energy, and connections to effect positive social change. By pledging to contribute a minimum amount to Ashoka over a three-year period, ASN members gain exclusive access to connect and engage with Ashoka Fellows.

ASN members engage with Ashoka and Ashoka Fellows in a number of different ways, based on their interests and skills: ASN members frequently participate in Ashoka Globalizer events, serve on advisory boards for Ashoka Fellows, attend local/regional retreats with members of the Ashoka community, assist Ashoka staff with institution-building efforts, and congregate at the ASN Global Summit—among other engagement opportunities.

What is the criteria to become an ASN member?

Selection consists of one or several meetings where Ashoka staff, together with a peer or a Fellow, validate the following criteria:​

  1. Ethical fiber. 
  2. Alignment with Ashoka’s vision. 
  3. Ability to contribute expertise and/or network. 
  4. Financial capacity.

Ashoka Africa Builders is a transformative program designed to empower social entrepreneurs across the continent. By fostering collaboration, building capacity, and engaging communities, this initiative creates a dynamic network of changemakers dedicated to addressing Africa's most pressing social challenges.

Key Highlights: 

  • Community Support - Connects social entrepreneurs to a network of peers and mentors. 
  • Skill Development - Offers resources and training to enhance the impact of initiatives. 
  • Regional Impact - Focused on driving positive change across the African continent.

Alexandra has a background in marketing and communications having worked in brand management roles at Procter & Gamble before setting up her own coaching and consulting practice. Through that she supported early stage purpose driven ventures with creative problem solving, business strategy and leadership development. She is an On Purpose Fellow and actively involved in numerous organisations as a volunteer.

Nikki Gravning is Director of Strategic Partnerships, Ashoka Europe with a core focus on partnerships to embed radical collaboration and changemaking for a better world into the corporate landscape.

Before joining Ashoka, Nikki successfully led the Social Innovation Strategy for New Zealand’s National Innovation Agency to change the funding landscape for social entrepreneurs in the country. She has mentored social enterprises in accelerator programs and helped raise $2 million for New Zealand’s largest social enterprise in 2017. She is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper Alumni and a Centre for Sustainability Leadership Fellow from her days in Sydney, Australia.
