Google is a company that believes deeply in entrepreneurship. And this is a company that believes deeply in the power of information. We don’t think there’s another organization that combines these two things in a more compelling way than Ashoka.

Background

US Program background

Using new and innovative approaches, social entrepreneurs in the USA are working to solve pressing problems in the fields of education, the environment, health, economic development, civic participation, and other areas of human concern. The Ashoka US program seeks to provide these extraordinary innovators the same kind of financial, professional, and moral support that is readily available to their business entrepreneur counterparts. Since its launch in 2000, the US Program has elected nearly 70 social entrepreneurs into the Fellowship.

Program Objectives

  • To identify and invest in emerging U.S. social entrepreneurs with innovative ideas for solving entrenched social problems
  • To facilitate collaboration among Ashoka Fellows worldwide
  • To strengthen the profession of social entrepreneurship
  • To accelerate the profession’s potential for effecting social change

Achievements and Goals

  • Going forward, the goal is to create the greatest network for social innovation in the USA.
  • The US Program will find and support 15-20 new Fellows per year and apply their combined ingenuity and expertise to solving our most pressing and pervasive social problems.
  • Ashoka supports the Fellowship through a wide array of programming, pro-bono consultancies, a Technical Assistance Fund, and collaboration assistance.
