Google is a company that believes deeply in entrepreneurship. And this is a company that believes deeply in the power of information. We don’t think there’s another organization that combines these two things in a more compelling way than Ashoka.

Global Academy and the Microcredit Movement

Microcredit, pioneered by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, is one of the most effective tools to fight poverty. Muhammad Yunus is founder of Grameen Bank and The Grameen Family of Companies and is a founding member of Ashoka’s Global Academy for Social Entrepreneurship. Ashoka has a large number of Fellows who work in the field of microfinance and has sparked an innovative series of collaborations between Ashoka Fellows and Grameen in the past few years. Professor Yunus is featured along with Ashoka CEO Bill Drayton on Ashoka’s film series, “The Social Entrepreneurship Series".

Ashoka’s Susan Davis also serves as Chair of the Board of Professor Yunus’s Grameen Foundation. She collaborated with leading venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, himself a vocal proponent of microfinance, to describe its successes and the important role of social entrepreneurs in the global fight against poverty.
