Social Entrepreneurs: Doing Sustainable DevelopmentForty-seven Ashoka Fellows working on sustainable development shared their thoughts on the role and potential of social entrepreneurs during an extended email dialog. Next, some 20 of these Fellows worked to capture the key principles articulated during this dialog for the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development. Originally written in Tlholego ecovillage on the outskirts of Johannesburg, this document, known as "Social Entrepreneurs: Doing Sustainable Development," is available as a PDF.
The Turning Tide This publication documents the creative insights and practical strategies developed by a diverse group of environmental innovators from around the world that met to address global challenges to the environment in London, October 2000. Participants joined the 2nd International Environmental Innovations Workshop from countries including Nigeria, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Indonesia and India and shared their unique experiences as environmental innovators within Ashoka's Global Fellowship of social entrepreneurs. The booklet includes a review of the central ideas of the meeting, a framework of principles driving environmental change, and Case Studies of these principles in action. The Turning Tide provides a practical look at what some of the world's most cutting-edge environmental innovators are doing to tackle environmental challenges of global importance in fields as diverse as river conservation, community-based forestry, and sustainable agriculture.
